“Achieving excellence together, my role in shaping the future of St. Joseph’s Senior Secondary School Naggalama at 59 years of existence”
Today, as we celebrate our Patron Saint’s Day, it is a moment of great humility and profound gratitude to God Almighty, for the gift of our precious life as well as the remarkable journey and the exceptional achievements of our beloved school in the year under review. We thank God that over the years, our school has been gradually growing into a centre of excellence, shaping not only brilliant minds but also responsible, disciplined, self-reliant, and compassionate individuals with refined character. That makes our school unique.
We particularly and heartily glorify God for the many blessings He has endowed our school with, at the helm of which, is the powerful intercession of St. Joseph, our Patron Saint, whose virtues of humility, diligence, faith, and obedience continue to inspire us every day.
Let me take this opportunity to pleasantly welcome all our distinguished guests; the priests, Headteachers, friends, old students, parents and candidates of 2025 to our school day celebrations. In a special way, we recognise the 2025 candidates for having earned us stellar performance. I would like to warmly welcome the new members of our family; the S.1 and S.5 students. We are confident that you have found St. Joseph’s Senior Secondary School Naggalama a home away from home.
First and foremost, our school has maintained consistent exceptional performance in academics. We thank God that year after year, our students have demonstrated outstanding results as a consequence of our deliberate effort and commitment to excel.
This unique pursuit has transformed our school into a National Academic Giant in the U.C.E. and U.A.C.E. examinations. We are currently ranked second best academically in the country. This is a reflection of the dedication of our teachers, the determination of our learners, the supportive parents and above all the facilitation of the Board of Governors in addition to the prayers of Bishop Christopher Kakooza. These academic achievements are a proof of hardwork, perseverance and the zeal for pursuit of excellence.
We are happy that beyond academic excellence, our school always deliberately focuses on the moral upbringing of our students. Education here is not limited to the classroom, it is about building character. Our school instills into the learners values such as; integrity, self-reliance, self-discipline, God-fearing, prudence, responsibility and compassion. These are enshrined in our core values as a school. These virtues guide our students to become upright students with refined character who contribute positively to society.
Equally admirable is the school’s commitment to the spiritual growth of the students and staff. Through guidance, reflection, Holy Mass, personal and communal prayers as well as sharing values, the students and staff are purposely nurtured to appreciate and bear the fruits of the Holy Spirit as stipulated in Galatians 5:22 with emphasis on encouraging them to develop inner strength, humility, compassion, love and gratitude. This spiritual foundation helps to shape balanced individuals who leave with purpose. This also helps the students to build personal relationship with God. We commend the chaplain; Rev. Fr. Vincent Wasswa for being the engine behind this spiritual achievement.
Another remarkable milestone, is the steady growth of the school’s infrastructure. The modern classrooms, smartboards, modern dormitories, modern halls, well-equipped laboratories, swimming pool, basketball courts, and better resources have created an environment where the students can learn, explore and innovate. These developments reflect the vision and commitment of the Board of Governors and the school’s effort towards continuous improvement.
In addition, the school has achieved outstanding progress in Science and Technology, by encouraging curiosity, innovation, creativity and practical learning. Students are empowered to explore scientific ideas and technological advancement. This prepares them to shrive in the rapidly evolving world and become future innovators and problem solvers. We recognise the outstanding performance of our students namely: Hakim Kavuma, Araali Israel, Rukundo Praise and Uwase Elizabeth who participated in the National Coding Competitions held at Kololo and Kabojja International School. Uwase emerged the second best and won a gold medal, one million shillings and a sponsored trip to South Africa to participate in the International Competition in Robotics. She was elected the President of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM Uganda).
We are going to exhibit the students’ innovative projects today after speeches. I request the parents to go and witness the students’ creativity and innovations.
Our students participated in the National Mathematics Contest – 2025, for Papers, 1 and 2. In a special way, we recognise Kasasa Martin Bruce currently in S.5, for his outstanding performance in this contest. He was ranked the 4th nationally out of 4,184 participants. Fifteen students of both ‘O’ and ‘A’ Levels qualified to attend the International Mathematical Olympiad 2025, training camp which took place between Wednesday 10th December and Sunday 21st December 2025,
at Light Academy Secondary School – Lweza. John Paul Lule of S.6 Biological qualified for the International Contest, which will take place in China in June 2026.
U.C.E. and U.AC.E. Results 2025
The 2025 Uganda Certificate of Education (U.C.E.) examinations results were exceptionally good. All our students excelled, with the lowest and minority score being C. Among the academic giants, we are the only school with no candidate that scored D and E grades in any of the subjects. We thank God Almighty for this profound academic milestone.
The Saturday Monitor newspaper of 14th February 2026, ranked our school the 2nd best Academic Giant in the country in view of the schools that posted a big number of students who scored A and B grades.
Our school has not attained its current enviable position drastically. Rather it has been a gradual journey with the Almighty God being at the helm of every level of success achieved. We are glad to inform you that St. Joseph’s SSS Naggalama has been emerging the second-best academic giant nationally for the past two consecutive years. We glorify the Almighty God for having made our school “an icon” of excellence over the years. This has not been by our might or power, but by the grace of God.
Among other students, we congratulate the following upon having excelled in the 2025 end of cycle examinations:

We are filled with boundless joy to announce that all our U.C.E. candidates returned for their Advanced Level education amidst tight competition between them and students who had equally excelled from other recognised schools. We are eternally grateful to God for the trust they have put in our school.
We wholeheartedly applaud the entire school fraternity and all our stakeholders for reaching this profound milestone. Your dedication, commitment, and teamwork have truly borne fruit. We extend our sincere appreciation to you dear parents of Senior Five 2026, for the trust you have put in our school by entrusting us with your children.
We thank God for yet another milestone in the academic journey of our school. Our last cohort of the traditional Advanced Level Curriculum scored exceptional grades. A total of 22 students scored the maximum 20 points while 41 scored between 19 and 18 points. The rest of the students also performed well enough to qualify for university enrolment. The fact that our school has been consistently ascending the pillar of academic excellence is no minor achievement.
We congratulate our UACE highfliers for the excellent performance as shown in the table below.

We are equally delighted that over the years we have made a breakthrough in the areas of Sciences where students perform exceptionally well. Our top performance is noticeable in the field of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics etc.
We hope to become a Science Academic Powerhouse and significantly contribute to human capital development in this country especially in the area of Science.
Today’s combined celebration is about recognising resilience, hardwork of our students and staff as well as acknowledging the relentless effort of the parents, Board of Governors, all stakeholder and above all the Almighty God who is ever at the helm of our excellence. We thank God for His abundant blessings.
It is also an opportunity for us to build confidence in our current candidates and let them know, that with the grace of God and hardwork, excellence can be achieved. Today, we are also here together to promote the culture of excellence and inspire our current candidates to strive towards achieving golden success.
We thank the parents for creating a conducive environment for the children while at school by providing them with financial support and material needs. Dear students the ball is now in your court. Notwithstanding that you have made it now with flying colours, I urge you to continue shinning wherever you go; keep the banner of discipline and excellence burning.
We thank God for having enabled us to enroll our Senior One (S.1) and Senior Five (S.5) students with very good grades within just three days after the release of the 2025 PLE and UCE results respectively.
It is both comforting and rewarding to witness the exceptionally high number of parents requesting for placement of their children in our school. However, to maintain our academic standards, we regulate and ring-fence the applicants by enforcing stringent entrance grade requirements. We are truly amazed by the level of interest and trust that parents continue to put in our institution. We sincerely thank all our stakeholders for their invaluable contribution towards achieving this remarkable milestone.
We are privileged to be the only secondary school in the country that has organised the Inter-University Symposium and Exhibition for two consecutive years. This initiative is intended to provide a learning platform that fosters collaboration, networking, and knowledge exchange among universities, students, and parents, with the aim of promoting higher education opportunities and regional cooperation. The Symposium and Exhibition enables students and parents to explore different universities, their locations, and the programmes they offer. Through this interaction, participants are able to obtain first-hand information that helps them to make well-informed decisions regarding their future academic paths. We therefore recognize and appreciate the 22 universities and tertiary institutions that participated in the second edition of the Inter-University Symposium and Exhibition. Their presence and contribution greatly enriched the event. We also encourage the students who participated to make good use of the information they received and to share it with other potential beneficiaries so that more learners can benefit from these opportunities.
We invite you to attend this year’s Inter-university Symposium and Exhibition on Saturday 13th June 2026.
We extend our gratitude and warm congratulations to Bishop Christopher Kakooza and the entire Lugazi Diocese for the colourful and successful celebration of the Uganda Martyrs’ Day on Tuesday, 3rd June 2025. The organisation of the event was truly remarkable, unique, and captivating. We are delighted that our students and staff actively participated in the preparations. Notably, our students made a valuable contribution by collecting offertory during the celebration. We also sincerely thank you dear parents, for your inestimable contribution towards the success of this historic day. May the heroic example of the Uganda Martyrs continue to inspire us all to live lives of faith, courage and commitment. We thank Bishop Christopher Kakooza for having recognised and rewarded our students and staff for the services they rendered.
We applaud Lugazi Diocese for having set a commendable precedent by organising the first-ever National Students’ Pilgrimage on Friday, 30th May 2025, what an innovation! This historic initiative has become a springboard for future student-focused pilgrimages and a great milestone in nurturing the faith of young people. Our students joyfully animated the Students’ Holy Mass as some of the members that constituted the choir on Friday, 30th May 2025.
Our school derives pleasure in consolidating both teaching and co-curricular activities. Education here is holistic where learners engage in sports activities, debate, leadership and community service programmes. With this, students are given the opportunity to discover their talents and abilities, which in turn enables them to develop self-confidence. We were thrilled and greatly educated by our students during the Inter-house Music, Dance, and Drama competitions held on 8th March 2026. All the items presented namely: Drama, modern dances, poems, the set-piece, traditional dances, and speeches ably reflected the theme of the year.
The participants demonstrated rich talents, creativity, cultural diversity as well as the values of collaboration and collective effort. I would like to congratulate St. Kizito House upon having emerged the best house in the competitions.
Allow me to express my deepest and most heartfelt appreciation to all members of staff: The teaching, non-teaching, and support staff whose dedication, sacrifice, and selfless service sustain this great institution. Your professionalism, unity, and unwavering commitment form the backbone of our school and continue to shape the future of our learners. Through your tireless efforts, you create an environment where knowledge is acquired, character is built, and excellence is pursued. Due to your cooperation, passion, and sense of duty, our students are empowered not only to learn, but also to grow in wisdom, confidence, and responsibility.
You are truly the driving force behind the progress and reputation of our school. Your hardwork, resilience, and shared vision have enabled this institution to continue rising to greater heights. Indeed, you are a winning team whose commitment and dedication inspire our students and strengthen the legacy of this great school.
All these profound achievements would be impossible without the unwavering dedication and support of the parents, the enthusiasm of the students besides the visionary leadership of the Board of Governors and the wise counsel of His Lordship Bishop Christopher Kakooza. Together we have built a family that cherishes excellence, integrity and growth.
We appreciate the service providers for having rendered satisfactory services that have remarkably made this great day colourful and successful.
In conclusion, let us take pride in how far we have come and remain determined to build even a brighter future for our school. May our school continue to flourish and inspire generations to come.
Dear stakeholders, I heartily thank you for being such dependable partners in the steady growth of our school. May the Almighty God continue to bless you abundantly.
