The prefects’ swearing-in ceremony on Friday 8th August, 2025 was a significant event that marked the beginning of a new chapter in student leadership.
The ceremony commenced with a Holy mass led by Msgr. Rev Dr Richard Kayondo, who emphasized the importance of servant leadership, citing Matthew 20:26-28. The Story of the two sons of Zebedee.
Key Takeaways from Msgr. Rev Dr Richard Kayondo’s Address:
Leadership is Servant Leadership that is A leader must be willing to serve the community, lead by example, and embody humility.
Integrity is Key i.e. A good leader lives a life of integrity, leading by doing rather than commanding.
Choosing Leaders- When selecting leaders, look for individuals with a good understanding and reconciling heart.
He also highlighted The Nature of Leadership. Leadership comes with high charges, but the rewards are great. Genuine leadership is tough but rewarding.
He likened leadership and riches to shadows, noting that the more you chase them, the further they seem to move away.
The outgoing prefects handed over responsibilities to the new cabinet, who were encouraged to be a group of students ready to share and serve their peers. The Head teacher in her speech emphasized the importance of leadership and responsibility as she congratulated the new leaders. She encouraged them to work hard and pick a leaf from the outgoing leaders.
The ceremony was concluded with a dinner where the main celebrant, School Chaplain, administrators, teachers, outgoing prefects, the incoming prefects and some members of the school choir made a celebratory tone for the new prefects’ tenure.
Prefects play a crucial role in shaping school culture, fostering accountability, and developing essential life skills such as decision-making, teamwork, and problem-solving. By taking on leadership roles, prefects become role models, setting standards for discipline, respect, and academic excellence.
Congratulations the John Mary Noeline cabinet.
