Naggalama follows the curriculum preset by the Ministry of Education for secondary schools. St. Joseph’s Secondary School Naggalama follows the national curriculum set by the Ministry of Education and Sports, ensuring a comprehensive and structured academic program. In the lower secondary (S.1–S.2), all subjects are compulsory, providing students with a broad foundation. At S.3 and S.4, students select from a range of subjects, including core sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics), Mathematics, English, Geography, History, and electives like Agriculture, Fine Art, French, Luganda, Music, Computer Science, and Literature in English.

At the A-Level, subject combinations are tailored to students’ strengths and career aspirations, encompassing sciences (e.g., PCM, PCB), arts (e.g., HEL, HEG), and vocational options (e.g., Entrepreneurship, Technical Drawing). This curriculum structure is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary for academic success and future endeavors. With the introduction of the new skill-based lower secondary  curriculum by NCDC, the following are the electives from which students are supposed to choose, Agriculture, Literature in English, French, Luganda, Fine Art, ICT and Music.

History of Performance

St. Joseph’s Secondary School Naggalama continues to excel academically, securing the second position nationally in the 2024 Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examinations. The school achieved 1,820 A grades, 1,430 B grades, and 98 C grades, with no recorded D grades, reflecting a strong academic performance . In the 2023 UCE exams, all 293 candidates passed, with 98.6% attaining Division 1 and 1.4% in Division 2, underscoring the school’s consistent academic excellence.

The school provides an e-learning platform accessible to students across various levels, including Senior One through Senior Six, facilitating online learning and resource access . In addition, the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) laboratory is well-equipped with modern computers and accessories, enabling students to access digital learning materials and develop essential ICT skills .
